Tired parents, this one's for you. The elf tradition is magical — until it's 11pm and you're staring at the shelf with zero ideas. These 15 easy elf ideas each take 5 minutes or less, using stuff you already have at home.
Classic 2-minute setups
1. Cereal box surprise. Stand your elf inside an open cereal box with a tiny note: "I tried your breakfast!"
2. Mirror message. Write "Good morning!" on the bathroom mirror in dry-erase marker and prop your elf beside it.
3. Bookworm elf. Open a children's book and lay your elf across the pages, as if caught mid-story.
4. Mug hideout. Tuck your elf into a coffee mug on the kitchen counter. Done.
5. Toilet paper trail. Unroll a short trail of toilet paper from the bathroom to wherever your elf is "hiding."
Silly scenes kids love
6. Candy cane zip line. String a candy cane across the room with ribbon and hang your elf from it.
7. Marshmallow bath. Fill a mug with mini marshmallows and sit your elf inside like a bubble bath.
8. Elf snow angels. Sprinkle flour or powdered sugar on the counter and lay your elf in the middle of a "snow angel."
9. Toy parade. Line up stuffed animals or toy cars with your elf leading the parade.
10. Stuck in the blinds. Tangle your elf playfully in the window blinds (gently!) with a note: "Help!"
Sweet & kind ideas
11. Kindness note. Have your elf hold a note with one kind task: "Today, give someone a compliment."
12. Hot cocoa station. Set your elf next to two mugs with a packet of cocoa: "Cocoa for you!"
13. Drawing surprise. Leave a half-finished drawing "by" your elf for your child to complete.
14. Countdown chain. Have your elf hold a paper chain with the days left until Christmas.
15. Goodbye letter. On the last night, prop your elf by a short farewell note (ours includes one in every kit).
